Buying isn't

Checkout requires you to be signed in. The domain is delivered to your account, so there has to be an account to deliver it to before payment is taken. An anonymous purchase would leave the domain with nowhere to go.

What the account gives you afterwards

Your dashboard is where the full domain name is revealed once the order is fulfilled, where the domain and its verified history live, and where your order records are kept. Signing up takes an email address.
