About this list

This page lists 346 expired domains with .edu backlinks. Each has expired, is available to register, and has at least one referring domain from a university that survived the original site going offline. Names are masked until you reveal them on Free, Starter and Pro; Business shows every name. Every metric is open.

If you searched for buy edu backlinks, the short answer is that you cannot, and this page is not selling them. No university sells links, and a paid placement on a .edu page is link spam under Google's spam policies. What exists instead is a domain a university already chose to cite. When that domain expires, the citation stays on the university page and points at whoever registers the name next. This page lists those domains. We do not sell, hold or register any of them.

The university link is found, not claimed. Referring domains are counted from our own web crawl, not from a paid link index. The referring domain is matched by name against the universities the directory tracks, and a listing is on this page only while at least one of those links is in the graph. Availability is re-checked against the live DNS root over DNS-over-HTTPS, and a listing that turns out to be registered is removed. Site history comes from archived captures: the archived snapshot count and the span of years the site was captured. Revised Score blends link-graph centrality, referring domains and site history into one 0 to 100 grade, computed across the whole directory.

A .edu link is rare in the directory, about one listing in a hundred, because a university cites a site only when someone there judged it useful. That says nothing about the site's topic, so read the link beside the category, the site history, the referring domain band and the Revised Score. The individual university pages under the source index show the same listings one institution at a time. Browse the featured order here, or use the filters to pivot into the full directory. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a .edu backlink?

A link from a page on a university's .edu domain. Only accredited US postsecondary institutions can register .edu, so the registrant behind the link is always a real institution. The link itself is usually on a library resource list, a department page, a course page or a research citation, placed by a librarian, a faculty member or a member of staff. That editorial decision is what makes the link worth having.

How do I find expired domains with .edu backlinks?

Browse this page. Every listing has at least one referring domain from a tracked university in our web crawl, has expired, and is available to register. On Free, Starter and Pro the names are masked and the metrics are open; Business shows every name. Reveal a listing to get its name, then register it at any registrar. The individual university pages under the source index show the same listings one institution at a time.

Do .edu backlinks still count after a domain expires?

No more than a link from any other strong site. Google has said there is no TLD bonus. What a university link carries is the authority of the linking site and the fact that it is hard to obtain. The link stays in place as long as the linking page does, and it resolves to whatever is at the domain now. Google's expired domain abuse policy targets expired domains repurposed for unrelated content, so a site that continues the old domain's subject keeps the benefit and one that changes subject should not expect to.

Can I buy .edu backlinks?

No, and nobody sells them legitimately. A university does not sell links, and paying a third party to place one on a .edu page is link spam under Google's spam policies, which name links bought or sold for ranking purposes. The sellers who advertise .edu backlinks place them in comment sections, abandoned student pages or hacked subdomains, which is the kind of link Google ignores or acts on. The honest route is a domain a university already chose to cite, which is what this page lists.

Does Revised sell .edu backlinks?

No. Revised is a directory of expired domains that are available to register, with their metrics verified. We do not hold, sell or register domains, and we do not sell or place links. When you reveal a listing you get the name and its metrics, and you register it yourself at any registrar. Buying or placing links on university sites is against Google's link spam policy and against the policies of the institutions.

Plans, not browsing

Searching is free. A plan decides how many names you see.

Every metric on these listings is open to everyone, signed in or not, and so is every search, filter and sort. Free listings show their name to anyone. On Free, Starter and Pro a reveal hands you a masked name and a fresh availability check; Business shows every name. Then the domain is yours to register at any registrar. A free account gets 5 reveals a month.

Availability is re-checked the moment you reveal a name, or on Business when you register. They go once someone else registers them.
