About this list

This page lists 158 expired domains with .gov backlinks. Each has expired, is available to register, and has at least one referring domain from a government or intergovernmental site that survived the original site going offline. Names are masked until you reveal them on Free, Starter and Pro; Business shows every name. Every metric is open.

The government link is found, not claimed. Referring domains are counted from our own web crawl, not from a paid link index. The referring domain is matched by name against the agencies and institutions the directory tracks: US federal agencies on .gov, national governments on .gov.uk and .gov.au, the EU institutions and the treaty organisations on .int. Availability is re-checked against the live DNS root over DNS-over-HTTPS, and a listing that turns out to be registered is removed. Site history comes from archived captures: the archived snapshot count and the span of years the site was captured. Revised Score blends link-graph centrality, referring domains and site history into one 0 to 100 grade, computed across the whole directory.

A government citation is the rarest link in the directory, a few listings in a thousand, because an agency links out only when its staff judged a site useful to the public. That says nothing about the site's topic, so read the link beside the category, the site history, the referring domain band and the Revised Score. The individual agency pages under the source index show the same listings one body at a time. Browse the featured order here, or use the filters to pivot into the full directory. Search, filters and sort are free, signed in or not.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a .gov backlink?

A link from a page on a government domain: a US federal agency on .gov, a national government on .gov.uk or .gov.au, the EU institutions on europa.eu, or a treaty organisation on .int. Those registries only issue domains to the bodies themselves, so the registrant behind the link is always a real public institution. The link is usually on a resource directory, a consumer guide, a small business page or a citation in a published report.

How do I find expired domains with .gov backlinks?

Browse this page. Every listing has at least one referring domain from a tracked government or intergovernmental site in our web crawl, has expired, and is available to register. On Free, Starter and Pro the names are masked and the metrics are open; Business shows every name. Reveal a listing to get its name, then register it at any registrar. The individual agency pages under the source index show the same listings one body at a time.

Are .gov backlinks worth more than other backlinks?

Google has said there is no ranking bonus for the .gov extension. A government link is often strong because the linking site is strong and because nobody can register a .gov domain to place one. The link stays live for as long as the linking page does and resolves to whatever is at the domain now. Google's expired domain abuse policy targets expired domains repurposed for unrelated content, so a site that continues the old domain's subject keeps the benefit.

Does Revised sell .gov backlinks?

No. Revised is a directory of expired domains that are available to register, with their metrics verified. We do not hold, sell or register domains, and we do not sell or place links. A reveal gives you the name and its metrics, and you register it yourself at any registrar. Any service offering to place a link on a government site is describing link spam under Google's policies.

Plans, not browsing

Searching is free. A plan decides how many names you see.

Every metric on these listings is open to everyone, signed in or not, and so is every search, filter and sort. Free listings show their name to anyone. On Free, Starter and Pro a reveal hands you a masked name and a fresh availability check; Business shows every name. Then the domain is yours to register at any registrar. A free account gets 5 reveals a month.

Availability is re-checked the moment you reveal a name, or on Business when you register. They go once someone else registers them.
